Professional St. Louis Baby Photography Studio Sessions

Pricing & Session Details

To My Dear Clients,

In response to Covid-19 / Cornavirus and for the health of my family and the families I serve, I am only offering social distance structured photo sessions for the foreseeable future.

Maybe you’re like me and your desperately seeking some “normalcy”, but you are only willing to return to those things if you can do so mindfully.

I’ve given a great deal of consideration to exactly how I would be able to provide my services to you in the safest way possible during this time… after all, our kids don’t stop growing & changing and I know you want to freeze these moments, too!

So, what’s the answer as it applies to photography? I’ve adapted my offerings and, in working together, I’m confident we can create some amazing portraits for you to look back on fondly. I greatly appreciate your flexibility and look forward to seeing you – at a distance – soon!

Commonly Asked Questions…

What special steps will be taken to help prevent the spread of germs?

  • Only outdoor sessions at this time  – your home (yard, porch, garden, patio) or a low-traffic location of photographer’s choosing.
  • Shorter session length of 30min to 1hr to lessen exposure risk.
  • Immediate family only (no extended family members, such as grandparents)
  • No-touch policy and a minimum of 6 feet between photographer & family at all times.
  • Photographer will wear a mask when at closer distances of around 6-8 feet, reserving the right to remove mask when at safer distances greater than 8-10 approx. feet in an effort to give verbal directions and help children to smile.
  • Max of 2 container or seat-type props supplied by the photographer will be properly cleaned prior to being used
  • Families are responsible for supplying any and all clothing, headwear, blankets, smash cakes & complementary decorations for birthday sessions (if desired), etc.
  • Families are required to sign a digital agreement at the time of booking stating they understand that all who will be photographed must be in good health two weeks leading up to and on the day of the session and that will notify photographer if anyone has ran/runs a fever, has a cough, or feels ill/off in any way and agrees to cancel if any apply. In addition, if you’ve been in contact with someone diagnosed with Covid-19 or if anyone you’ve been near has had covid-like symptoms in the past 14 days the session will also need to be rescheduled. The photographer also agrees to adhere to the same requirements.

How might the session or portraits be a bit different than before?

  • Portraits will be relaxed, lifestyle candids vs. a more posed approach. By putting the focus on natural, un-posed moments, I am able to step back capture at a safe distance. Unsure/confused as to how traditional posed portraits equals close contact, in particular for newborn portraits? See below.
  • For Newborn Portraits:
    • I will provide you with tips that will help encourage baby to be happy & content during our time together. If baby chooses to sleep that’s wonderful but, if not, it’s not a problem as it will be our primary goal to capture some sweet candid moments between you and your little one, whether they are awake or asleep!
    • Because babies at this age do not have the ability to support themselves, individual portraits of baby will be captured by cropping in on baby while snug in mom & dad’s arms, baby lying on a blanket, in addition to parents placing baby safely in props prepared, prepped, and sanitized by the photographer. For these, parents may choose to cloth baby in an outfit or swaddle them in a blanket.
  • For Maternity Portraits:
    • One location, one outfit (adjust looks by layering) and spouse assists in adjusting hair, clothing, etc. Typically taking directions from afar is never a problem so not much impact would apply. For parents with older children in some of the portraits, I would default to putting the focus on candid moments of him/her interacting with you & baby/belly and try for a couple of more posed shots if they are eager to participate.
  • For Families Portraits:
    • I will capture your family interacting with each other by playing, tickling, kissing, singing, walking, laughing, and so on – whatever your children are interested in! Relaxed is usually what they prefer anyway and what brings about the most authentic smiles.
    • Every now and then, I will give a few prompts to get your attention so that we can also capture a couple of family photos where everyone is looking at the camera, but my main goal will be to soak up all those real and fun moments between you and your children. Please come prepared with things you can do together with your child and as a family. Reflecting on these things BEFORE we meet will help you have something fun to engage your child’s attention with. Ideas include: Consider songs your child likes, characters, animals or shows they enjoy; silly things that make them laugh; games they like to play (peek-a-boo, hide-n-seek, iSpy); identify a few toys your child likes that you can bring & incorporate into your pictures (interactive toys where you can play, too, are always a bonus).
  • For Individual Child Portraits:
    • Following candid photos, if a small selection of posed portraits are desired, I will ask parents who are not in the photo to do what I cannot at this time which is move in closer to position children/spouse, adjust clothing/hair if desired, and help solicit attention and smiles.
  • For Seniors:
    • One location, one outfit (adjust looks by layering), parent assists in adjusting hair, etc. The great thing about seniors is that typically taking directions from afar is never a problem, so besides making a few minor changes with less locations, outfits, etc. your session “at a distance” shouldn’t look much different.

Why less posed, more lifestyle/candid portraits?

It all comes down to the level of safe of interaction I’m able to give you and your children.

More often than not, with posed portraits the photographer is more directly involved in achieving the final look. Examples include holding your little one & positioning them for their pictures, talking closely with children to help them feel comfortable in front of the camera and basically doing whatever it takes for a smile, demonstrating & posing parents & siblings, adjusting hair, clothing, etc. all to get a more polished final look. As it applies to traditional newborn sessions, these would typically last 3-4 hours and require extremely close contact between the photographer and your family, in particular with your new baby. I would need to spend a significant amount of time swaddling your newborn, soothing them to sleep, and posing them for their pictures, in addition to prepping and posing parents & siblings, all with direct contact. As you can imagine, these type of interactions just aren’t safe enough given the current circumstances.

However, with lifestyle portraiture, the photographer steps back and gives your family space to forget the camera is around and enjoy some moments interacting together. It’s less posed (your kids will love this, and it’s less stress for parents, too!) and perfect for the circumstances we’re under, which is why it’s my primary reason for switching to social distance lifestyle portrait sessions, in lieu of traditional posed sessions, for the foreseeable future.

What will stay the same?

For families I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past, what absolutely will not change is my commitment to giving your family a personalized experience, from the time you book, to when we meet to capture your moments, all the way to after the session when I’m hand-editing each of your portraits and delivering them to you in a timely manner – nothing about my service in this way will ever change!
